Spain is justifiably well-known for its driven partridge shooting. The area of La Mancha is perhaps the best known of all, but there exists some top-class shooting closer to Madrid and near Salamanca.
The seasons vary depending on the region but broadly speaking it is October to March. In addition to outstanding sport, the hospitality and flair with which the Spanish organise the days are all part and parcel of what makes shooting in Spain so enjoyable.
Shooting breaks to Spain tend to be for two or three days. There are typically four or five drives a day with an expected bag of 500 birds or more.
Double-gun shooting is the norm in Spain and each gun has a cargador (loader) and a secretario (picker-up) who counts shot birds during the drive. Travelling with your own guns to Spain is straightforward and Spanish speakers are on hand to assist with the formalities.
Almost everywhere in Spain, drives are interrupted by tapas of manchego cheese and serrano ham with a selection of Spanish red wines or sherry. Sausages and sloe gin may be what you are used to, but when in Rome!
Much like shooting in the UK, Spain has all manner of shoots from the average to the outstanding. We have selected just two shoots from the many that we know and have visited. We believe that they cater for the vast majority of people and offer the right mix of shooting, accommodation and hospitality.
If you have unusual or very specific requirements and we feel that a shoot that we have not listed is more appropriate then we will make our recommendations accordingly.
