Cordoba is considered the dove shooting capital of the world and Pica Zuro is just a 1¼ hour drive from Cordoba airport. The 100 square mile radius around the lodge is annually inhabited by over 40 million doves.
Pica Zuro is an old estancia ranch house that was renovated in recent years to provide comfortable accommodation in a secluded setting for visiting guests.
The owners and operators of Pica Zuro are some of the original pioneers of shooting in the region and have been setting the standards for others in the area since the 1980s.
Shooting
The lodge enjoys some 55 shooting fields, all within a scenic drive through the region’s rich farmland.
The day generally starts at 8am with a hearty breakfast followed by the drive to the area where you will shoot for the day.
In the field you will be assigned a ‘pick-up boy’, who will provide you with shells and refreshments and direct you to your shooting stand. He will pick your shot birds during the course of your visit to Pica Zuro.
During the course of each shooting session, your main guide will check to see that you are still in the shooting. He will be available to assist you with any need and even give you some tips on your shooting if required.
The birds are shot while flighting between roosting, feeding and watering sites. While much is made of the numbers of birds in the area, the shooting can be as easy or as challenging as you wish.
Depending on the time of the year you will shoot until lunchtime when you will be treated to an incredible asado. This is the traditional Argentine barbeque lunch and is reason alone to visit Pica Zuro. There is a comfortable safari tent for shade and you will taste some of Argentina’s wonderful beef and superb wines.
The afternoon activity begins at about 2.30pm and continues until almost dark. There is no fixed time for shooting to finish. The joy of Pica Zuro is the relaxed atmosphere and the ability to enjoy your shooting as you wish.
Food and Lodging
Pica Zuro has nine double bedrooms each with its own bathroom and caters for a maximum of 18 people. Each room has been sympathetically renovated mixing both traditional style with modern creature comforts.
There is a large sitting room, bar area and dining room, all of which make a stay at Pica Zuro very comfortable indeed. The lodge also has a plunge pool which is available during the warmer months of the year.
Despite the remote location there is telephone and internet access and satellite TV.
